    Default Introducing us..

Hi everyone. This site has been a great resource for me over the past couple days. On Wednesday, I took Zach to the Dr to look at a couple bumps on his head (they're sorta on either side and feel like ridges). She noticed them right away and said it was an "overlap" (whatever that means), and that his fontanelle seemed small. As a result, she referred him to a pediatric neurosurgeon at CHEO to check for craniosynostosis. We're still waiting to get the call about an appointment.

Since the visit with the GP, we've been worried sick, afraid of what might happen, etc. He is 3 months old, his head is a bit bumpy in three places but other than that, his head/forehead look fine. There may be a bit of pinching at the temples, but when I look in the mirror, I see that I have a bit of pinching too.. so maybe it's the way our heads are. *shrug*

Anyhow, I just wanted to say hi, and to thank you for this site.

Welcome to CK! Glad you found us... I'm so sorry that you're going through this and really hope that it turns out to be nothing but overlap that will work itself out over time. I must say that the GP was great at recognizing the ridges, in combo with a smaller than normal fontanel can be an indication of cranio. Sounds like an awesome Dr.!!! I hope you get in to see the NS quickly, I know the waiting is the hardest part.

Please feel free to ask questions, there are no dumb ones here, so ask away... Keep us posted and good luck! Enjoy your little one as they grow up so quickly!

Welcome to CK! Larkin pretty much said it. They will send you to a NS to rule out the sutures being fused. If they are just overlapped they should pull out over time.

I was in your position about two weeks ago. My son was diagnosed with sagittal synostosis. Everything is/was so stressful, but luckily... it is moving fast for us. I hope you get all the answers you need quickly and that it is only an overlap. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the big welcome. I try to convince myself that if something's wrong, it can be corrected.. but I can't help but feel sick with worry.
