    Default Metopic Question

Ok, I hate to start so many threads, but I have a simple question.....

Something I have read in a few places the past few days.... are metopics supposed to have a closed soft spot? Alice doesn't. Hers is small, but definately not closed. I know she is mild, but I was just wondering if all metopics have a closed soft spot.

No....Fiona still had a soft spot before the surgery (not a huge one) but it's huge now. Here is her scan pic before the surgery...you can see the soft spot.

In my experience, some do and some don't. Although, (I think) that in the metopics that do have a soft spot, it is probably smaller than in other babies.

Thanks everyone and keep the responses and pictures coming! I love to know personal experiences rather than what medical articles say. I realize medical articles are based on research mostly, but not every case is the same, so I'd like to know what everyone else's experience is.

Zack's was finger-tip size at birth, but virtually non-existant by surgery @ 8 months.

Ian had a VERY small anterior fontanel at 6 months that closed around 7 months. I asked Dr. Fearon about it and he said that he often operates on chldren that still have them, so I guess it could go either way. I have read though that with babies that are born without it or that have it close "early" it CAN be an indication of craniosynostosis.

You can't feel Carter's but you can see it on his CT scan. I'll try and figure out how to post his scan on here.

Nicholas was metopic with severe Trigonocephaly and although it was very small (hardly noticeable), he did have a soft soft.

Azia had a tiny one I guess at birth but not much and it was gone soon after.
