Here we go again..

Hello everyone. It's been almost 2 years since I've been on here posting. We had a little one diagnosed with Metopic Cranio in 2010. After seeing countless doctors and getting several opinions we did the wait and see approach. It had no negative imapcts on her or her vision, of course the Dr's labeled it "cosmetic." She has a very noticable ridge, but as long as she is a happy healthy girl we're happy too.

Well we just recently had a new little girl! She was born two weeks ago. Everything was going pretty good until I was feeding her this morning. When I laid my hand on the back of her head, my heart kind of sank. I felt two ridges running along the backside of her head. I believe those are the lambdoid sutures? I remember with Whitter Bug her Pedi dismissing my concerns saying that the skull overlaps after birth and will "even out in time" that went on for 6 months before I convinced him to send us for a CT scan. I don't want to go down that road again. So I'm back here asking for advice.

First of all it's been so long I can't remember if this is "normal" for a newborns head to feel like. Moms who have kiddos with these sutures closed, could you describe it and how soon you realized it? Her two week check up was yesterday and I'm kicking myself for just realizing it today. Any advice is welcome. It's like we're starting this all over again and I feel sort of lost. TIA!

Congratulations on your new baby girl!

My sister had a baby last year. His coronal sutures were ridged clear as day, ear to ear. It can be very normal for newborns but I still worried about it a lot. It went away on its own. I'm trying to remember how long it took - maybe a month? So if your new angel is only 2 weeks, I would wait and see a few more weeks, but definitely not 6 months!

Congratulations!! My baby will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and she has ridging on her sagittal suture and on part of her coronals. I'm hoping its just overlapping. Her head shape is ok so far, so I'm gonnna wait and see what happens on the next month or so.

Congrats on your new daughter! Overlapping is normal. Don't beat yourself up for just noticing. A Dr wouldn't want to do surgery with a child as young as your daughter. Just make sure you ask when you go back for the one or two month appt. I know it's hard not to worry.

Congratulations on the new baby! I just had another one too and so worried about his head. He had a little ridge on top when he was born, so I freaked out, but it went away on its own.

I'd probably wait a few more weeks and see how it looks feels.

I think that after you've gone through having a cranio kid, you're going to be a head case forever....I know I am!

Congrats to both of you on your new baby girls! Ainsley had an overlapping sagittal suture at birth. it went away by ~4 weeks

Overlapping can be normal, especially for a vaginal birth. Generally goes away by two months. If it is still there at two months, time to get worried. Also, if they are the lambdoid sutures, watch for flattening on the back of the head. Keep it rotated in the mean time, so that she is not laying on one side or the other too long so that her head has the best opportunity to be nice and round with no plagio!

Thank you all for the responses! Life with two girls has me running around like a crazy lady. Haha I'm trying to not worry but I find myself counting down the days to her 2 month appointment so maybe I can breathe easier. Hope you all are doing well. Thanks again!
