    Default Surgery Updates

The Camino ICP monitor was surgically placed yesterday morning and showed normal levels for 24 hours. They did surgery this morning. They were able to harvest enough bone to do bone grafts, but they also covered with titanium plates. No blood transfusion was needed. In post-op, they could not give him morphine, because his oxygen levels were a bit low. Once those were up, they moved him to PICU. Here, he promptly threw up the sip of water that he had after surgery. Later, when a headache started, they tried Tylenol, but that did not work. Morphine worked, but he puked everywhere again. This evening, he had another headache, but his respiration is not consistent enough to get a nausea med and morphine again. He has been sleeping, though. I think that we will head home on Friday some time. He has one little spot on the right side above his ear that keeps bleeding, but the neurosurgeon thinks it looks fine.
Overall, he is doing good. These little bumps in the road are to be expected. Now, if I can just get over this cold that I came down with last night...

You did it! I know this month has been sheer hell for you, but you made it. You know this drill. Rest when you can and remember that in a few days he will be doing great!

Your post brought back bad memories of Adam's first surgery and fears of a potential second surgery. Ughh! I remember it all too well!

I can't believe Simon has had to go through three cranial surgeries. What a strong, brave boy! Hang in Mom...as you know the first couple days are the hardest. I'm glad they didn't detect any icp and that surgery went well. I hope recovery continues to go well so he can be released on Friday. I hope you feel better too!

    Sagittal surgery - 02/26/2009

Second surgery suggested to correct a bump on the head and fill in soft spots.

It sounds so rough! I hope he's feeling much better very soon, and you too.

Glad to hear surgery went so well. Now you can finally put this behind you. Hopefully you get to go home tomorrow and everyone could get some rest.

I wish he was feeling better, but at least you're almost home. In a few days hopefully he'll be back to his normal self.
