Default Looking for experiences with Dr Greenfield and Dr Spinelli (Cornell Hospital in NY)

Please let me know if you have any experience with Dr. Greenfield (NS) and/or Dr. Spinelli (PS). Our 15-month-old son was recently diagnosed with Saggital Craniosynostosis and needs surgery. We are trying to pick a surgeon & schedule the procedure ASAP since he had such a late diagnosis. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi Julia,
I do not have experience with either of those surgeons, but my 15 month old just had CVR and FOA with Dr. Staffenberg and Dr. Harter at NYU. Rest assured, he will do wonderfully. I was so stressed out about the age also. Our surgery was scheduled so quickly as well, which I was thankful for. We decided to do it the on May 7 and we were scheduled for May 17. I was happy to only have 10 days to overthink it! I'm going to try and post pics soon- I need to upload them on my computer. He is a week and a half out and he is almost fully back to himself- he still has swelling but he looks like himself and we are so happy. Good luck, hope it happens very soon for you!!

    hi Jessie,

Thanks for your reply. We actually have an appointment with Dr. Staffenberg, but it isn't until July. I've been trying to move up the appointment, but no luck yet. It's great to hear that you had a good experience, especially with an older child. XOXO to your baby.

Welcome to CK !We are from NJ and Dr S did my daughters surgery just over 1 year ago. Dr S is usually very accommodating if you email him and explain the situation and that you would love to get in sooner. This is what I did. Also it may be a good idea to ask him about the craniofacial conference. I believe they do it once a month. This way you will be able to meet with the entire team as well as Dr. S and a neurosurgeon individually at that time. One other thing that will probably be recommended to you if it hasnt been yet is a visit to a Ped. Opthalmologist. He can check for any swelling of the optic nerve (indicating increased pressure) or any associated eye issues. We used Dr. Lustig (he is on the craniofacial Team @ NYU) and we love him.

We met with Dr. Souweidane, a neurosurgeon at Cornell. He was wonderful and he said he usually works with either Dr. Spinelli or Dr. Ascherman. I think you will be in good hands no matter who you choose at Cornell. They are some of the best docs out there.

    Hi Julia,
Did you end up choosing a doctor? We are deciding between NYU and NY Presbyterian..
