    Default Ridge caused by helmet?

Okay, so I'm not questioning the doctors or orthotics people, but Aaron has a ridge that they think is caused by the helmet. Is there anyone else out there who has had this happen? Its on the back of his head (lambroidal line?)? And, did it go away once they were done with their helmet? I just don't want there to be any obstacles that could be fixed.

My daughter got ridges on her squamosal sutures from the helmet. Ridging is fairly common. It usually occurs as a result of the helmet being too tight. Point it out to both the doctors and orthotics and ask them if they can loosen it up so the head does not compensate quite that much. Talking with my orthotics chap and plastic surgeon, they really only get worried if waves start forming in the skull itself.

Since getting her helmet off the ridges have gone down, but it has only been a month and they are still noticeable. Sometimes the helmet can cause overlapping of the plates along the sutures.

This ridging is what Dr. Fearon is afraid of, he believes it is a sign of ICP and can cause fusion of other sutures. That is why he does not recommend or do helmet therapy. That said, I think the odds of that happening are tremendously small and have found no real statistics on it.

    Hope that helps!

We had some ridges during helmet therapy. Our orthotist reassured us that it was a sign of the helmet doing it's job. My daughters head was a little lopsided and the helmet was perfectly centered on her head. Therefore, a small ridge formed on one side of her forehead from the helmet trying to straighten her out.

After the helmet completed straightening her out the ridge went away. Her forehead looks nice and smooth now. The top of her head is still all lumpy from the surgery, but that's the only sign of cranio we have left.

Just posted on the FB page about this! Jonah is 3 weeks into helmet therapy and I just noticed a ridge running parallel to his front incision. We went to the orthotist today and he told me to take him to see the NS. So we are going in tomorrow. Hope this is normal!
