Default Help with fighting UHC for helmet coverage?

Hi- I'm new here and totally overwhelmed. Daughter Lucy born 3/25/11 will be having surgery on 6/29. We've been told that UHC is denying coverage and we can appeal. I saw a few posts where some of you have fought and won. Any tips, and anyone willing to share their letter/what worked for you?
With a newborn and toddler running around it's all I can do to take care of them. The thought of having to fight insurance is overwhelming to me.
    HELP!

    Thanks in advance,
    Laurie

Are you fighting for surgery coverage and helmet coverage or just helmet? I had to write an appeal to get my insurance to cover my surgeon of choice. I attempted my first two appeals with a simple letter from me. Didn't work. I then hired a lady named Laurie Todd, The Insurance Warrior. she wrote my 34-page winning appeal. You will have to evidence to back your case up and find cases of precedent where your insurance company has paid for this before. If you want to email her she's at laurie@theinsurancewarrior.com. Best of luck to you.

UHC gave me a hard time covering the helmet for my daughters helmet therapy also. I never actually had to appeal. The orthotics company worked directly with the insurance company to get their payment. You might want to check into that option first. The orthotics companies know the helmets are required and they will do everything in their power to get their money, luckily for us, that meant they fought with the ins company on my behalf. Good luck to you!!
