Thread: Chiropractic instead of surgery?

    Default Chiropractic instead of surgery?

Has anyone had any experience/success using chiropractic care instead of surgery? I thought I read something somewhere but can't find it now. My daughter has sagittal.

Once the sutures are fused, nothing else will work. The bones grew together (for whatever reason) and they need to be separated surgically. Chiropractic care won't do that.

as Lauren said cranio is fused bone, there is no way to repair it without surgical intervention.

Lauren and Lisa are right, once the suture is fused nothing by surgery can fix it. I read something online about chiropractic care when Sophie was first diagnosed, but in that case they said the plates were overlapping not fused.

I had a chiro tell me he could fix it but I don't think he understood maybe he thought it was plagiocephaly?

Once fused they are fused. A chiropractor can not separate fused bone.

sorry, but I have to echo what all the ladies have said. Only surgery can "treat" true cranio.

I was actually going to post something about this. I am thinking about taking Justin for adjustments. I took him to my family chiropractor yesterday and he said that Justin's spine is all locked up and he has a wicked curve in his neck. I asked him does he see this in kids this age and he said it is common for those who had birth trauma. I am considering taking him because the spine effects your entire body. I talked to a mother who son has severe asthma and after 2 adjustments he no longer needs his inhaler. I also found this study online that is interesting. Chiropractic can help skull defects.

I too thought if they are fused that only surgery will correct it. It is only one study, but maybe chiropractic will help kids after surgery too. So many are having to get a second surgery, wonder if this will help to prevent that. ????
I have taken Justin to so many specialist to help with his asthma, sleep problems, and stomach pains. Maybe this will be the answer to all his problems. His spine is out of wack, causing him to be out-of-wack. The chiropractor also said today that doing adjustments for his spine would help ease any pressure in the brain.
Something to think about I guess.

ooh I was just getting ready to post this in Hot topics. This is a scary new thing some Doctor's are starting to advertise. That they can treat cranio without invasive surgery!Nothing will move the fused suture once its fused it is solid bone. Positional plagiocephaly has had the treatment of a certain kind of scalp massage to help with minor cases and that has a possibility of working since all bones are still moveable because of the open and not rigid sutures. But yea scary that this is being said to parents who don't know enough about craniosynostosis in the first place.

I'm not aware that chiropractic treatment would 'treat' craniosynostosis. I have taken my son to a chiropractor since he was 4 months and he has never said that he can do anything for the Alfie's skull. He has found tension in his neck and shoulder and we also hope it is helping his reflux. My husband and I have seen a chiropractor for a couple of years and I had adjustments throughout my pregnancy. We originally went for specific acute problems (hip and shoulder) now I am a 'believer' in the practice and feel it is all about keeping yourself healthy.
