    Default Autism Link

Isaac had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Carson (NS) yesterday. This was the first time that we've been able to get Dr. Carson's opinion about Isaac's autism diagnosis.

Dr. Carson said there's a lot of research that is pointing to a possible link between autism and chiari (one of Isaac's other conditions). I asked him what he thought of that research. Dr. Carson said that he has certainly seen an increased incidence of autism in his chiari patients and thinks that there may very well be a link there.

I just thought it was interesting to hear that Dr. Carson thinks there may be something worth researching. Dr. Carson said there's a lot of information on the internet about it (which I find funny, because Dr. Carson normally tells everyone to stay OFF the internet)....guess I'll have to spend some quality time with Dr. Google this week...

That is interesting! It would be hard to say if the Autism in chiari would be simply associated with the drastic increases in Autism over all or if there is a link. I'd love to see more research on this!

Yeah that has crossed my mind too. They seem to be finding links between autism and almost everything anymore! I haven't started researching it yet, but I'll let ya know if I find anything good.

I have been doing a lot of research on chiari lately and have run across several items that are suggesting a link between autism and chiari. Let's hope someone can make sense of this sooner than later.

What is the link? I think i've heard that it can be a misdiagnosis of autism if Chiari is present??? Would that mean if Max had Chiari and it was fixed...his autism would go away?????? Imagine that!

I'll try and figure out where I saw it at, I have been doing so much research that I may have filed it somewhere. I definitely remember reading that sometimes autism symptoms are resolved after decompression for chiari. I will look through my files and see what I can find.

In Kaci's book, she mentioned that the doctor's were talking about diagnosing Austin with autism.
