    Default Special Education Advocacy

I just wanted to let you all know that I am also a special education advocate - although I can only help "in person" in NY, I am available via telephone and email to help with advice and concerns. I can only make recommendations for EI or CPSE - I specialize mostly in CSE. I can help with letter writing, requesting evals, making good IEP goals...etc.

If anybody needs advocacy advice - feel free to contact me via email syddesi2@aol.com.

Thank you Amy! All too often parent's aren't informed of their rights to special education, or don't know how to go about receiving it. Or, the title special education in itself can be intimidating. I know that had it not been for Jenny, I wouldn't have known what EI was, that he could receive therapy services and ECSE preschool.

Amy- Thanks so much for volunteering like this!! I know EI stands for early intervention, but I'm sorry I don't know what the others mean...

    Thanks! Kristin

CPSE is when your child moves from EI (Early Intervention) to The Committee of Preschool Special Education. CPSE is a fairly easy journey - typically the "monkey wrench" is thrown in at about age 5 when the child enters CSE (Committee of Special Education). There are laws in place NCLB (No child left behind) and IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities education Act) that protect OUR CHILDREN and their rights to a FAPE (Free and appropriate education). If ever you feel that your child's rights have been compromised or you have an IEP (Individual education Plan) that you don't understand, email me or call (516) 232-7015 and I will help you. If you live in NY, I can meet with you and/or attend a meeting with you - if you are out of state - I will counsel you over the phone. The important thing to do is to educate and empower yourselves. We are all advocates - each and every one of us. You all are very special people - my favorite people. So don't feel intimidated by your school district - if you need help or advice, give me a holler.

Thanks so much Amy! I'm gonna give you a call soon. Isaac is in EI, but will turn 3 in a few weeks and we're having a really hard time getting him transitioned into the school's program. He does have an autism diagnosis...anyways, I'll be calling you soon. Thanks a bunch!
