Did anyone else loose massive amounts of hair after getting the helmet.

Patrick had major bald spots on the contact points of the helmet. 6 months later and his hair is still thinner in those spots but it is growing back. My guess is that it will not be noticeable anymore in another couple of months.

Is she having hair loss all over, or just in certain spots?

Its all over really, she has a few spots that are worse than others. I asked the Orthotic lady about it at the helmet place, she said thats not normal... I was just wondering if anyone else had it either. Shes mostly bald in the back now... And shes normally got alot of hair.

wow! that seems like a lot. Jack's hair was thin already. i didn't really notice any hair loss. maybe a tiny bit in the back... it does seem that since he's had the helmet off though that his hair has grown A LOT faster.

it also looks like shes got a pretty big red spot behind her right ear. I would make sure the helmet is fitting right and not rubbing in the wrong spots. there should be some pink spots in certain pressure points that disappear pretty quickly when the helmet is off, but no red spots (and I wouldn't think that behind the ear is a spot where there should be pressure?? maybe i'm wrong though)

The red spot behind her ear is her drain tube scar, its a little infected, and we are putting neosporin and hydrocotizone on it now. The "rash" back there on her head is a birth mark shes had since birth.

She has an appt monday with her Ped. I am so frusterated, they pushed me off, and wanted to wait till the 12th!!

I have done some reading (BAD MOMMY) and it could be from the trama of surgery, OR it could be from being anemic.... they commented several times about how she didnt require much blood.

I am sure thats not it, her color is good and shes not lethargic. But, it is frusterating that they blow me off again. I am REALLY close to changing peds.

I certainly don't think it is normal either. Avery wore his helmet pre-op for 5 months and we saw nothing like this. I certainly think I might get a second opinion....maybe a dermatologist?

Hang in there! :hugg

Jocelyn was in her helmet for 2 months, and the only spots that seemed to not grow hair was where the parts were just above her ears. She didn't have hair to begin with there, but it grew everywhere but there. We are a month and a half out of the helmet now and she still doesn't have hair there either. Might just be her. I would DEFINITELY be pushing for answers. That does not seem normal after 1 day at all.

Maybe it's the trauma of the surgery...I know from experience it happens to me
BUT
You keep pushing for an answer, and if you don't like your paediatrician you SHOULD change, you need to have complete faith in the person looking after your kids.
I don't know how it works in the US, we have free medical here is australia - do you have to go through an insurance company - if so, you fight for what you want!!!
