View Full Version : Sleeping through the night... or not, more specifically!

Hello ladies

Hudson was up every 40 minutes last night. :react We are absolutely exhausted. He had improved to a point of only waking once or twice throughout the night and it was bliss! But then over the Easter weekend he has been rather whingey again, and shocking at night. We are taking him to the GP this morning to check that his ears, throat etc are clear of infections, although I doubt he will have anything wrong as he has played happily for the most part with his brother this morning.

Sleeping with me doesn't help, he still wakes crying and is increasingly harder to settle. He didn't sleep through the night before his operation, so I don't expect him too now only 3 weeks post op, but it's the fact that it is getting worse that worries me.

Any tips or advice? We have tried the night light, music in his room, a blanket with my smell on it - everything! He has a dummy (pacifier) but mostly he is crying with it still in. What is going on? Post traumatic stress?!!

Probably teething!!!! They get the molars working their way in around that age and it takes FOREVER!!!! My other son's didn't really have a problem with it, but Ian has just been a pain in the butt with his teeth coming in, and they seem to come in one at a time, back to back so it's been over 6 months on no sleeping!!! I use baby motrin to take the edge off at night but he's still up every hour or so to nurse again, and again, and again!!!! Good luck and keep us posted...

Well the GP gave him the all clear so I think you are right! Those eye teeth are pretty bulgy at the gums so maybe it's that, and his poos have been - well - have you smelt them from the US?! They are toxic!! :lol

Yeah, sounds like teeth. Keeson has been waking more and more at night lately. It is a wonderful night of sleep when he goes with 7 or 8 hours of no waking. I hope things get a little better soon. I know how important sleep is!

Take care.

You are so right Pam! The other night we had the incredibly rare occasion of him sleeping 7pm-midnight straight, not waking once. At 11.30pm I said to Ty (DH) "can you actually imagine having a child that consistently sleeps through from a young age?" - his answer was no, but to just stop and think about that a minute... how much easier would parenting be without the sleep deprivation?!

I said to him the reason we don't get those little angels is because if we did, we'd have 17 kids by now!! It's the lack of sleep that stops us breeding!! :lol

Oh, Bree, you are too funny! Yeah I can see how the lack of sleep would keep someone from having more kids. Kepler is our good sleeper. He has pretty much from the beginning. We've taught both boys to go to sleep with noise so that we don't have to tiptoe around, but Kepler then can sleep for at least 10 hours. Keeson's crying at night or fussing after nap (while Kepler is still sleeping) doesn't even wake Kepler! Kepler also usually takes at least a 3 hour nap every day. I say usually because lately he isn't napping every day like he did before. Very frustrating!

At least the sleep deprivation hasn't affected your sense of humor!

Take care.
Pam

Just thought of another thing... During surgery they give them something that slows down digestion, so maybe the LONG nights are a combo one, two punch of teeth coming in AND his digestion getting back to normal. Ian was miserable with gas, post op, and he's always has trouble with it but it was magnified with the slow down... Just a thought...

Thanks Larkin - you may be onto something there, he has always been a colicky baby so that may just be it. Thank you! So just time helped Ian?

Yes, just time... It's a lot for their little bodies to handle all at once with the surgery, then throw in teething, and everything else...I'd be a wreck too!! I was and I didn't have the surgery!! Ian's always had bowel troubles, so the slow down didn't do him any favors. Hope everything smooths out soon... Keep us posted!!
