K - just wondering if anyone else has had to change helmet places due to being unhappy with progress?
Wolfy had been in his helmet for a little over a month when they gave us a new helmet free of charge because he'd grown out of it so quickly. Then after another few months I noticed a ridge on his forehead because the helmet was sitting ON his forehead instead of over it. I pointed it out at a fitting but was told the head/helmet were still in the "parameters". Made an appt with the NS who referred us to someone else "just to see".
Long story short the old place had cut the helmet incorrectly and seemed to be building a forehead ridge (just what we need right??!!?!?) instead of making a nice round head all over.
I'm not really sure what the point of telling you all this except to say BE THE SQUEAKY WHEEL. If you think something isn't going right, speak up and say something.

Good for you for being pro-active. I hope they caught it in time so your son doesn't need a surgery for a forehead ridge. Just what you don't need right?
Great job momma!
Have you ever posted pictures of your cutie in his helmet? I'd love to see them! Do you have it decorated or anything?

I love squeaky wheels! If you can save some other child from going thru this then hooray for you! Also, if this did cause an issue with your son that requires treatment/surgery, I would look into my legal right about holding the company liable.

I'm starting an album right now with some pix of Wolfy in his helmet. The first 2 were boring clear plastic that weighed a ton. We decided to have some fun with the new one and chose the "martians" theme with spaceships on it. I'll get a pic in there as soon as I take one of my little guy (he's still sleeping).
The forehead ridge is already less noticeable after only 3 weeks out of the old helmet. Right now we're hoping that the old company will pay for the cost of the new helmet plus the new orthotist's time etc. The new orthotist will be submitting a bill to them. If it doesn't get paid we may have to go the legal route if insurance won't cover the cost of the 2nd (THIRD) helmet. At this point, we just want his head to be normal - since that's a big reason we went through surgery & helmet therapy to begin with. If we need more surgery because of this I'll definitely be screaming a heckuva lot louder than I am at the moment.

i was unhappy with our helmet company but didn't think we could change in the middle - i didn't think the insurance would cover it. they weren't taking enough out of the back & ember's circumference dropped like 30%. and since her head couldn't grow back it was growing upward! (i guess it's called "vaulting") but anyway, once i realized what was going on i started making the decisions about how much foam they ground out and from where. i brought her back once a week & made them take more out of the back. she looks better now but it was so frustrating! i just spent how much money & emotional & physical pain only to have these people undo it? i just can't help think what she would look like if these people had done their job right, ya know? her forehead is still bigger than it was before the helmet & i think it's going to stay that way. grrr....
i hope you get your costs covered. i'm sure if you keep working at it they'll pay if it means avoiding a lawsuit! keep us updated, ok?
