I hope Leigh doesn't get mad at me for posting this but they need our prayers right now. Issac is on his way to the ER because he ATE glass. I don't have much as far as details but Leigh said he was actually chewing it and swallowed some. If she doesn't call me in the next hour I'll be calling their local hospital. They have been through so much...

Hey all! Wow, you guys are great!!!...Here's the scoop. I was on the phone trying to get in contact with the neurosurgeon's office. The kids were being really noisy and I couldn't hear which option to choose from on the automated answering service. So, I walked into another room for a few minutes (thinking the kids would be fine for a few minutes)...I had just pressed the button I needed when my oldest son walked in with Isaac. I could hear Isaac crunching something in his teeth and he was holding something in his hand. My oldest son said "Mom, Isaac's eating glass"....I looked closer and saw that it was a glass bottle and Isaac had eaten about 1-2 inches of the glass off of the top. I could still hear it crunching in his teeth, so I tried to do a finger sweep to get it out, but he bit down on my finger and swallowed the rest of the glass that was in his mouth. He started screaming and reaching for the rest of the bottle...He wanted more!!!

I called the doctor, who sent us to the emergency room. They did x-rays and looked in his mouth. A few very minor cuts inside his lip and mouth, but everything else looked good. I guess he chewed it up well! UUgghhh. They sent us home with a bunch of gloves so we can dig through his poo and call if we see any large chunks of glass. They said not to be alarmed if it was slightly bloody, but if we saw a lot of blood to call 911.

i-yi-yi...y'all, I don't know how I'm going to survive this kid!! Right now I want to laugh and cry at the same time!!!

Oh my! When it rains, it freakin pours!! You have got to catch a break soon Leigh!!! I hope it all "comes out" fine and there are no issues. I'd just keep giving him lots of fiber to bulk up his stool. I remember when my brotherinlaw's son ate a shark's tooth. He had to feed him lots of raisin bran and then check his poop too. It took about 2 days to come out.

Right now we believe it is sensory related. He enjoyed the feeling of it crunching in his teeth (eeewww, this makes a shiver go up my spine every time I think of the sound) Isaac does a lot of things like that to try to stimulate his senses. "Autism" is a word that has been mentioned several times by his doctor's and therapists...he has a lot of red flags for it, but doesn't seem to fit totally. We have actually noticed a lot of developemental regression and the sensory issues have gotten worse in the last few weeks. Now that we have seen his MRI report it makes sense to us...we don't think Isaac has autism. We think his brain is under a lot of pressure and it's causing the autistic like behavoirs.

Leigh - Although never glass, Austin's sensory stuff was messed up for a long time. We experienced the whole autism discussion with several doctors too. I completely hear you - it was the same with Austin and that once the brain wasn't being squished - whether cranio or chiari - the red flags went away. Have you heard anything about the MRI yet?

I am so glad he is okay. Maybe you can give him some ice to chew on to get his sensory fix. I hope you get some news on the MRI soon.

Everybody ready for an update?

Yesterday, Isaac had a little bit of glass in his diaper. Tonight there was more. Poor guy, it is cutting his little bottom. I slathered his whole bum with vaseline to try to keep the glass from contacting his skin so much as he passes it. Uuugghh, I hope he hurries and gets rid of it all!

Also, yesterday and today his voice has turned extremely raspy, almost to the point of him not being able to speak. His voice got like this after his surgery in April due to the tube being down his throat, so I'm hoping that it's this way now because of the tube they put down his throat for the anesthesia (MRI) last week. The other possibility is that the glass cut and scratched his throat quite a bit on the way down and it's swelling now. The speech therapist came today and said she was concerned about the possibility of swelling down by the vocal cords.

Poor guy, no matter what's causing it, he can't be very comfortable right now.

Oh my Leigh!! Poor little man!! I pray that his vocal cords aren't swollen. I hope all of this is behind you both real soon. How scary!
