I posted some pics in kobe's album on my page!
Hi everyone,
The hardest day of my life is over and my world is where it should be! Kobe is doing amazing, you all told me it would be a fast recovery and all this would soon be a distant memory....you were right! He basically picked up where he left off, he climbed the stairs for the fist time 5 days after his surgery! he is just motoring around the house.
The day of the surgery they took him away at about 8am on tuesday morning, they told us to be back in the family room around 11:30. We were but it took them an extra hour beofre they came and told us the surgery had gone well. That was the longest 2 hours of my life...just waiting. It then took another hour and a half before we could go and see him in recovery (they had really drugged him, so he was taking his time waking up). When we got to see him for the first time, it was really hard to see him, becasue they didn't bandage him up so at first all we saw was a ton of stiches. Kobe really didn't look like himself, he was already swelling. We spent about hour in te recovery room, and then was brought upstairs.
We thought the hardest part was over but tat nite around 7pm, he was crying a cry i had never heard before, he was in pain. The nurses told us we had 2 extra shots of morphine(?) we could give him thru the nite, we didn't know weather to give it to him then or wait, we didn't know if this was going to be the be the peak of pain. We ended up giving it to him right away, and then he basically slept thru the nite (minus the nurses coming in to check his vitals etc.) The next day his swelling was reaching the peak. But he was doing great, down to just 2mg of morphine and was taking completly off morphine within 48hours. He did really great in the hospital, very minimal fussing for the next 2 days. We had a ton of visitors. By thursay evening he opened one eye and about an hour later the other opened. It was the cutest sight ever. He had to lift his head up to see us, and then gave us the biggest grin. The next morning he was sitting and crawling around in the crib, so the doctors released us at 12pm friday afternoon. I couldn't believe we were going home, and how well kobe was doing (my lil super trooper!)
Now we are home and doing pretty well. Kobe wakes alot in the night, I think alot has to so with that he slept on his stomache since he was like 6 weeks old and now he is having to sleep on his back, i am wondering when i can put him on his back without having to worry about the stiches? (any one have advise on that?) We are now at day 11 post op and his stiches are healing fantastically, and like i said other than sleeping he is completly backk ot himself. And everyday he is looking more and more like kobe. We are so glad to be on the other side!!
