Dillon did. It was actually about 5 months afte rhis surgery before it was decided it may help in molding his head. He wore it for a couple of months, but then it becams euseless because he learned how to pop it off :lol

Our daughter wore a helmet after her first 2 vaults, they didnt help, the doctors that did the surgery really didnt know what they where doing. After she had her 3rd vault and 2nd forhead advancement, she looks totaly different and even more beautiful than before.
I have talked to and seen helmets work very well, you just have to be patient to see results, and make sure you keep it on them and clean.

Gabe didn't have a helmet. I did my research and was convinced he needed one. His doctor said he'd be fine. I thought he was crazy. What if I dropped him on his head? I considered a football helmet. Then I met my daycare provider. Her son was born with an open skull. His soft spots joined together leaving the entire top of his head as one big soft spot. Turns out our sons have the same doctor. He said the same thing to her and she thought he was crazy. I think it depends on the type of synostosis and the doctor.

our dr. said our son would wear a helmet up to 6 months after his surgery.
i think jules is right, it depends on the type of synostosis.

Clara wore a helmet for molding after surgery for about 6 months. At first the PS said she wouldn't need one. That was one of my questions before surgery, and he assured me that she didn't need one. Well she did, so she got one about 3 months post-op. I will always wonder if she got the helmet right away and had 3 extra months of molding, if she would have needed the second "touch-up" surgery.
It was funny. Clara would never keep hats on either. But she didn't try to take the helmet off after the first week or so.

Jackson wore a helmet for 9 months. He didn't like it at first. But he got used to it. He started wearing it before he was even crawling, so he was used to the extra weight. It was when I took the helmet off that his equalibrium seemed off. LOL
He hasn't worn the helmet in almost 2 months and seems fine.

Hi! My name is Tiffany. We found out two weeks ago that our son Nolan (3 weeks old yesterday) has sagital craniosynostosis. Immediatly we were shocked, scared, curious as to what this meant, etc. I am sure you know exactly what I mean. We immediatly were directed to Cincinnati Childrens Hospital. We met with the surgical team this past Monday and were very impressed. His name is Dr. Kerry Crone, Head of Pediatric Neurosurgery. He was excellent with both my husband and myself, and most importantly Nolan. He would be doing the endoscopic strip crainiectomy. He does not believe in helmet therapy and would perform the surger when Nolan is about 6-7 weeks. We are going to get a second opinion, to cross reference, at Childrens Hospital in Boston. That surgeon also believes in the endoscopic strip procedure, but does believe in helmet therapy.
We feel very torn between what to do, endscopic or CVR. Helmet or no helmet? Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Timothy's surgery will be on Tuesday the 30th October for Sagittal. His Doctor says he wont need a helmet, and that his head wont be round immediatley after the surgery but will round-up (so to speak) after awhile. Any thoughts on this more than welcome for those with Sagittal babies and others? Thanks

Which one did you go with? We are doing helmet therapy! I'm so pleased with it already, I don't think there would be a change if we hadn't done the helmets. Because after the surgery her head got flat, well then as she started to not want to lay flat on the back of her head, it started to reshape. So I'm pleased with the helmets so far!

Azia had metopic and a CVR so she didn't have a helmet. The CVR is a reconstruction in itself so it shouldn't need helmets after.

Carson has a helmet that he has to wear for about a year. We did the endoscopic strip surgery, which requires a helmet. The tradeoff between the helmet and they less invasive surgery worked for us. The helmet doesn't bother Carson or me at all!
