Hey, everybody. I've just got a quick question for you. Madison was fitted for her helmet this past Tuesday after having her staples removed that morning by the plastic surgeon. Her surgery to release her right coronal suture was 2 weeks ago (Jan. 30). Anyway, we're expecting her helmet to be here next Tuesday. My question is how long did it take your child to get used to wearing the helmet. She's going to have to wear it 23 hours a day. One of the girls from the office said she will probably have to wear it for about 3 months. But I've seen several people's stories on here and their kids had to wear them much longer, like 7 or 8 months. I know all kids are different. But I'd like some kind of idea of what to expect. Thanks for your help!;)

kayla had to wear hers 23 hours a day too... She wore hers for about 5 months i think.. I think it depends also on how old the child is, because the bones could be more likely to move when they are younger, so they would keep it on longer..

Tyler wore his 5 months and Jakob 3 months. I think all depends on age, type of cranio and surgeon perferences. It didnt take very long for them to get use to it. They had us work up to 23 hours that way there skin gets toughed up. It also depends on the child and the type of helmet. Tylers was foam lined and Jakobs was clear plastic.

Sara Grace is in her helmet now. She has to wear it for 23 hrs a day for approx. 3 months. She has taken very well to it. The first night was very rough but now she is used to it and doesnt complain at all. In fact when you first take it off she gets this confused look on her face like she knows she is missing something.

Gavin wore a helmet for about 6 weeks after his total CVR for sagittal. He adjusted really well and I was surprised how well he slept with it on. He fussed a little when I tried to put it on (it usually took a few attempts) but he was fine with it once it was on. Good luck!

Hi! My son is three months old and had surgery on January 24th. He got his helmet about 10 days later and now wears it 23 hours a day. They expect that he will have to wear it for about 8 months. It took about a week for him to get adjusted to wearing it, but he seems completely fine with it now. At first I wondered if he ever would because it just seems so uncomfortable but he is doing great with it and we can not believe the difference that it has made already! Good luck!!
