Today we went for x-rays and a check up for the twins. Jacob will need another surgery. This time they will cut across the top from ear to ear in a squiggle pattern. He will have his skull cut in a mosaic cut ( little pieces). His surgery is scheduled for the first week of May. Has anyone here ever had a similar situation. The surgery is mostly for cosmetic reasons. We weren't even sure if we should have it done. Your advice and comment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear the little guy has to have surgery again. My son is only 3 months post-op so I can't really help you on that note. There are moms on here who's babies are having second surgeries for cosmetic reasons. I am sure they will share their thoughts and experiences with you. Please keep us posted. You can actually add the date in the Calendar and we will pray that all goes well.

Hi Gwen! I, too, am no help in this department. My daughter is 7 months post op and so far so good. I am sure one of the other moms out there who has experience with this can help!!:hugg

I'm sorry you have to go through a 2nd surgery. Emily is actually having her second surgery on the 10th of this month. Her's is also mainly cosmetic (don't let the insurance company here you say that! :giggle) I'm sure it's for the best for her in the long run. Our procedures sound totally different, so I can't help you on that part of it- but I completely understand the torn feeling or doing the surgery or not as it's not 'medically' necessary. :hugg

:hugg Dillon is most likely going to need a second surgery as well. As far as surgeries for cosmetic reasons, I believe that in the long run, it is the best thing for the child emotional well being :hugg

If it helps you, we also decided that it was in our daughter's best interest to have surgery for cosmetic reasons but we haven't gone through it yet (it is 11 days away). It was a tough decision and not one you will come to easily but you will know what to do - think of your son's future and what he would want. What type of cranio. does he have? How old is he? It took us 4 months of research and getting advice from others before we had our minds made up. I don't think anyone comes to this decision quickly. What made a big difference to us was speaking with a woman whose parents chose not to have the surgery and how she resented them for it. She really wished they had taken the risk. I also asked myself, if it were me, what would I want my parent's to do (maybe that seems an obvious question but I thought about it seriously and concluded that school was hard enough without having a distorted face). I am still afraid of the surgery - terrified really - but I haven't heard of anyone having a negative outcome (hopefully others here with more experience can offer statistics on that?) and when I told one surgeon that I feared the surgery and thought it was dangerous he said it was not at all dangerous, just complicated. So I made sure I found a good, and very experienced, surgeon who could handle "complicated".

Good luck to you, and keep us posted,
Jennifer C.

Hello Jennifer C.
I hope that your surgery goes well. My twins both born with sagittal synostosis. Their first sugery was at 8 mths old. Joshua's surgery was a success. Jacob's first surgery also helped at great deal. The twins just made on year on Easter. We go in on May 1 for Jacob's surgery. Good Luck and keep us posted.
