Hey everyone, jsut letting you know we go to Sick Kids again this week to see Holly's eye Dr. I'm really worried because she's not keeping ehr patches on, she peels them off as fast as I put them on. I'm even trying tape on top now!! I think the Dr will know we've not been very diligent at the patching, but I'm hoping it won't cause her to have to have surgery. :banghead

She can be so frustrating! :adore

:hugg I can't imagine trying to keep the patch on any toddler. That's gotta be hard and frustrating. One little girl in Sarah's class a few years ago had to wear a patch every other day- she didn't like it, but at 4 at least they understand why.....

Good luck at your appointment!

:banghead Good grief, I can't get Maggie to leave a bow or headband on!!! It must be VERY difficult and frustrating. Hopefully when you see the DR. again she will be done w/ that and any other complications!!!:cheer

Holly's first date!!! Whooohooooo!! I hope the other boys aren't jealous!!! LOL!! She'll be getting the drops so she might no be too happy. I sent you an e-mail Sly, our appointment is at 9:30am and 9:45, we also have to page one of her cranio Drs, he wanted to see her too when we came down. He said "Just have them page me!" I hope he's not in surgery or something cause we weren't sure of the date at the time, he just wants to see her and hug her! :adore

Also, we planned on staying in TO for a few hours and shopping before going to Peterborough for the weekend as Reilley has a dance competition. So lunch would be awesome!!!! YAY!! I get to meet a cranio Mommy and Daddy!!!

Mikayla was supposed to wear the eye patches also and would not. She did end up having the surgery but, the Dr. said the patches might not do what we needed anyway. I think it is a first step for insurance purposes in especially in our case. Mikayla had to have a lot of correction. The surgery was a piece of cake compared to any of the others Mikayla has had. Not that I would wish surgery on anyone but, this one is not very invasive or anything. They cut make a really small incision right next to the iris of the eye, peel back the white part to expose muscle, take the muscle off and put it on where it needs to be. Mikaylas surgery took less time than it took to put her under. She was a little cranky when she came to and kept wanting to rub her eyes. But, the next day she was right back to normal. Like I said I would never want anyone to have to go through surgery but, if it is something that needs to be done I would do this one anyday. Hopefully everything will be ok when you go to the appt! Good luck!

Is eye surgery a common issue after cranio surgery? My daughter's vision has been fine thus far. Just wondering if this problem existed beforehand. I would like to know any risks, etc. since we are researching surgery right now. Thanks in advance.

I don't think it's commonly caused by the surgery itself, but I think vision problems can sometimes be associated with cranio. Dillon is currently having his vision monitored due to some problems that don't require any action at this time. It's hard to say weather or not he had the problems before surgery, as he was only 4.5 months old and hadn't been seen by an optholmologist yet. If I had to guess, I'd say the problems were there before surgery, as his orbitz were quite malformed. That is defenitely a good question to ask your neurosurgeon though! :hugg
