Hi everyone,

As the title suggests, I think I may have SS. After years of thinking that I was just born with an unsual headshape, I have only just recently discovered that I may have a form of craniosynostosis. I would consider my head to be slightly narrow, but my main concern is that I seem to have some sort of a bulge in the fontanelle area, or it at least appears to be quite raised. Is this an indication of sagittal synostosis, or have I got it wrong? Apologies if that doesn't make much sense, but it's the best way I can explain it. It's probably not even noticable to most people due to the way I wear my hair, but it is enough to bother me.
I'm set to be seeing a neurologist soon to determine the cause of my headaches, and I was wondering whether a neurologist could detect SS, or would at least have knowledge on it?

Welcome to CK! I would think that a neurologist would be able to identify cranio. If you feel comfortable enough, you could post a picture of your concerns. The members here see ALOT of cranio and are pretty good at spoting cranio and various types.

Welcome! I agree with Cat. A neurologist would be familiar with cranio and able to tell whether or not you have it. Good luck and let us know.

Welcome! A neurologist or a cranio facial specialist should be able to determine whether or not you have cranio. Like Cat said, if you are comfortable posting pictures, there are a lot of great "headpickers" on here who can chime in. :)

Welcome to ck! I hope the neurologist can figure out the source of your headaches. It would be helpful if you could post pics. If you're not comfortable posting pics of your face, a side profile pic and a birdseye pic from above would be helpful. It is also easiest to spot with a wet head. The narrow head and headaches could be a symptom of cranio. As for the bulge, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the walm welcome. I would post a picture, but I'm far too reluctant and not quite comforable with the idea so I won't. :)

Going by your replies, I was more worrid about the bulge more than anything, but I take it that this doesn't seem to be a common cause of SS?
I'll be seeing the neurologist this week, so it's great to know that they are familiar with the surroundings of Craniosynostosis. Hopefully all will go well and I'll find out the root cause of the headaches and whether I have SS or not.

So the appointment with the neurologist went fairly well I suppose.
I was prescribed some medication to try out for the headaches, but they don't seem to be helping at all which is a problem.

He also ordered for me to have a MRI scan, which came back clear. However, am I under the correct impression that a CT scan is more accurate when it comes to detecting craniosynostosis? I am due to be seeing the neurologist again soon, so any input would be appreciated. :)

Right, my CT scan is this week, however it isn't a 3D scan.
Is there much difference between the two?
