Camden should have his 4 month shots the beginning of January, and his surgery will be Jan. 15th. I'm wondering if it's ok for him to get his shots right before surgery?? Could it interfere with anything?? He'll be on the procrit injections too....so many things going into his little body all around the same time just makes me nervous!

Our pediatrician advised us to have the shots but, our surgeon advised us to have no shots within 3 weeks before or after the surgery. This might be one of those things where each doctor has their own way of doing things. It might be good to ask your surgeon's opinion.

Thanks Cathy! Our ped. told me that the shots would be fine for him to get before, but I wasn't sure about that....so I decided to ask the expert moms here and I'll email our surgeon too! I'll go with whatever he says to do...

Amy, Andrew's NS told us yes, get the immunizations done. He had his the same week as surgery.

I don't know about the regular shots but Christina's surgeon told us not to get the flu shot within four weeks of her surgery. He didn't say anything about the other ones but her schedule doesn't interfere either.

Charlie couldnt have his 1 year shots incase of having a blood transfusion because then he wouldnt be covered. We also had to wait until 3 months after his op to have the MMR for the same reasons

Thanks for all the input. Our PS said he would leave it up to our pediatrician! So it looks like he'll be getting his 4 mo. shots!
