Thank you so much, everyone, for your well wishes. You are truly a wonderful community and I feel very supported by your kind words. I am anxious, but less so than I expected. The 2 month delay since the first surgery was postponed has helped me deal with all of this craziness and come to terms with it a little better. I have some peace that all will be well tomorrow, but still will hold my breath until Nicolas' surgeons come out to tell us he is OK. I dread handing him over in the morning, and cannot wait for his new beginning after surgery.
Will send an update as soon as I can. Thanks again!!!!!

Thinking of you! All the best for a smooth and speedy recovery.
Handing over your child is the hardest thing in the world and the waiting is agonizing but it really is worth it in the end.
Nicolas will do so well, he will amaze you!
Keep us updated when you can.

Good luck to the little fella! We can empathize with the postponement thing, having been through it ourselves. Soon our littluns will be in the same boat - on the other side!

I wanted to let you know that Nicolas came through surgery well and has been moved off the pediatric intensive care unit into a regular room. He is resting comfortably for the most part, although quite agitated when he does wake up. He's meeting expected post-op milestones, so despite his swollen head (his face is so swollen he doesn't look like himself - it is making me so sad and Iiss my little boy), being poked for blood and other tests (4 lines inserted during the operation went bad; they have had to hunt for 2 others; his chibbiness and all the swelling are making the lines hard to get, he has been poked so many times!!!), and having endured a 7 plus hour operation (long for anyone, let alone a 1 year old), he is
doing well and for that we are so very happy. Last night (night 2 post-op) was rough, but mostly because of the lines fiasco. When he does stir, my holding him comforts him very quickly. Otherwise, he seems to be sleeping 85% of the time.
Thank you for your support, prayers and well wishes. So happy to say that we, too, are now on the other side!! What a feeling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hugs,
Lara

Thank you so much for the update. I'm so glad he is doing well. I am so sorry about his lines going bad. I also understand about seeing them so swollen. On that second day that was the hardest part for me. I know the feeling of just wanting your little boy back. Trust me...he'll be back before you know it. I hope he continues to do well. I'm thinking of you.
