Tucker is 3 weeks post op and he has a really big swollen lymph node behind his ear and a few tiny ones on the back of his head. I took him to his regular family doctor 2 weeks after surgery when I noticed them and she gave him a week of antibiotics and they are all still there. Yesterday I took him back and she said that she didn't know that maybe they were swollen from the surgery. Have any of your babies had swollen lymph nodes after surgery? It looks like a knot under the skin and it moves around under the skin with you touch it.

Maybe it's just from the stress of surgery and his body is fighting off a little bug. If he's not acting sick I wouldn't worry too much, because his body has been through a lot. It takes a while for them to go back down after they have been swollen. Sorry he's going through this!

Have you spoken with his surgeon or a nurse that works with the surgeon? I would be asking them questions and get him in if possible. Could it just be sutures under the skin? Good luck and keep us posted...

It may be different in children, and of course the recent surgery changes things as well, but years ago I had swollen lymph nodes due to an untreated infection. I'm sure that it took weeks if not months for them to totally go away. Maybe just a phone call to the surgeon would be a good place to start.

My son Reid had the same thing. Your description is spot on! Reid's surgeons weren't worried about it and the swollen lymph nodes went down after about a month. I think his body was just working out all the excess fluid and trauma from the surgery. Reid also got a little cold right after surgery. I don't really think that had anything to do with the swollen lymph nodes. Hope that helps!
P.S. It was a month till it when down after I discovered it. I discovered the lymph nodes at about 3 weeks like you!

The surgeons haven't really acted concerned either. He has been to two doctors other than the surgeons and the didn't act concerned either because they said he looked good. Guess it is just his bodys way of reacting after surgery!
Thanks Everyone!

Andrew has one... he still has one and he is over 2 years post op. They have decided that it is not a swollen lymph node, but a lymph node that is on the outside of the skull that should be on the inside of it. It is behind his left eat. They do not expect it to ever go away and the NS swears it is not harmful to him in any way. It bugs me, but after almost 3 years I have not seen it bother him so I try not to worry about it.
