CVR: Cranial Vault Remodeling
FOA: Frontal Orbital Advancement

These initials are for 2 different things which are performed at the same time for some children. With Simon, the CVR was where they took his skull apart, shaped it, and put it all back on. The FOA was where they took the eyebrow bone and brought it out about 1 cm. The abnormal growth of his skull was misshaping that area, too.

Positional plagiocephaly is the flat head that is often caused by a child laying on one side for too long over a period of time. It can appear like coronal cranio, but the sutures are not fused. (Now, if the pressure is severe, like that of a bigger twin squishing a smaller one in the womb, then the sutures can fuse.) In milder cases, the head usually rounds out after the child is given more tummy time. In the more severe cases, a molding helmet is used to shape the skull.
