It's hard to believe that 2 weeks ago we were sitting in the waiting room of the hospital. Post op is very different for an older kid than a baby. For the most part it's easier. Logan bounced back very quickly, but he does have some differences. He still doesn't have his full appetite back (not necessarily a bad thing - he wouldn't stop eating pre-op), he is a little quicker to meltdown, and he still refuses to look at his feet (the IVs had bothered him there). Strangely, his head seems to bother him more this week than before. He says ouch sometimes when putting on shirts, and occasionally rubs his head like it hurts. He gets very upset if we even try to talk about why he needed surgery so until he really wants to know, I guess we won't say anything.
His head is great, but now that it's been 2 weeks since we've seen his pre-op face, I'm getting more critical of his appearance. I noticed I was comparing his new look to the average non-cranio kid, when I need to compare it to the pre-op Logan. His incision looks really good. Its odd how even with the stitches, his scar is remarkably less noticeable then it was pre-op. It gives me real hope that when he starts school next year (different area from his current daycare so he'll be around all new kids) no one would even notice that he has cranio nor his scar. I am surprised that I miss his scar (or racetrack as Logan called it).
So far his surgery was a success. I don't want to celebrate too much just yet as last time his face reverted back within a couple months, but we're optimistic this time it'll stick.
