Insurance doesn't cover helmet.

I just found out today that our insurance doesn't cover helmets. It's not just that the claim was denied, but it's not part of our coverage at all. I was told about Care Credit, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know of a grant or scholarship or something that we could apply for? Or did anyone use Care Credit? How did it work? What did you think?

Welcome to ck. I don't know much about this but I would get help from the helmet people and your sons doctor to convince your insurer that this is a necessary part of your son's treatment. You may need to file an appeal. Good luck and keep us posted!

I don't know if this will help but you can contact the world craniofacial foundation. www.worldcf.org. They helped us with our travel expenses with traveling to TX for my son's surgery. If you go to their website you can download the application. It would be worth a shot.

The fact that the helmet is not a "covered benefit" doesn't mean that they won't pay for it.

None of the sixty-five treatments that I have fought for was considered a "covered benefit" by the insurance company.

With a powerful written appeal, addressed to the highest decision-makers at your insurance company ... everything is negotiable.
