I am sure I have read here that we shouldn't be worried about the little ones buimping their heads after surgery so on the whole feel pretty ok about how things will be once we are back home post op. However the daughter of a family friend has literally just got home today with her little one who was sagittal and had his CVR on fri. He is doing well but they have been given the number for the local plastic surgeon in the city and told even if he slightly bumps his head they have to call him straight away and blue light him back to bristol?! Why is this? Is it like this for all LO's after surgery or because he was sagittal?

I am now totally freaked out as Aaron is soo mobile but not really very steady. He is only 7m and already crawling, pulling self to stand and cruising around furniture and in the last 4 days has caused himself 2 black eyes, and 4 bumps to the head!

Also I was under the impression (as they were) that by having the CVR helmet therapy was not needed but they have to go back next week so have a helmet fitted that he will wear for 3-6 months?

Well and truly confused and even more scared now!

Fiona started walking exactly 2 weeks post op...we were home one week and she started walking, I was paraniod but I didn't want to hold her back, and our surgeon said not to either. She didn't bump her head once until about 6 months post op....she walked right into the fridge and got a nice lump on her forehead....she was fine.....to this day she still has a number of soft spots, I'm not as worried as I was.

Also regarding the helmet, I'm confused about that.....we were told that if a child has a CVR for metopic they don't need a helmet aftewards. Fiona is going to wear a protective helmet when she starts school, but only for outside. It's no way at all for anything but protection, she is almost 3 years post op.

AJ fell down the stairs and hit his head 2 months post op and was just fine. He's Sagittal and I took him in and they said he was fine and only to really worry if he falls on something sharp like a knife! haha anyones going to get hurt if they fall on a knife!
I think they should listen to the doc's but not freak out if he does bump his head.

yeah i thought it was strange, I have told them about this site and what I know from it and to ask on here if she is concerned as I only really know about Metopic. So maybe she will pop up soon with some questions.

Thanks anyway

I joked yesterday with the consultant that Oscar will need a crash helmet after cos his too brothers are so wild, and he said he has never ever had a child come back because of a bumped head and the usual toddler bumps etc wont cause any probs.

We were told not to treat Sawyer any different after surgery or to worry about bumps and stuff. He received a nice little goose egg above his eye last night because he bumped heads with his older brother. I comforted him, kissed it and sent him on his way. :)
