this is what i emailed to dr staffenberg:

Even though we saw you yesterday, i STILL have to ask you another question, thought it would be better to email, as I dont want to bother you on the cell phone.
I noticed on the right side of Jason's head where you took off all the tape yesterday that there is a little scab hanging off what i though was a piece of hair, after looking at it closely and putting the ointment on, i think it is actually a dissolvable stitch as its like a clear wire, like fishing wire... its coming out a little on the incision line. what should i do?
thanks so much

he wrote back saying leaved it alone it will fall off when ready... happen to anyone else??

if its dissolvable I would leave it alone. That's what they used on my when I had my 2 c-sections.

I already see this on my daughter too and her surgery was only on Monday. Guess it's pretty common!

Our CFS actually told us to go ahead and pull them at our 2 wk post-op check. If they were sticking out, I just tugged and out they came. No problems. Only one was really tough and after 5 tugs I left it alone. By the morning, it was out on it's own. He is 1 month post-op now and he only has about 4 stragglers left which are attached on both ends, I'm about to pick them out too!!! I believe when they are dissolveable, it's fine to take them out. Of course I would do whatever your doc says but we had no problems helping things along plus it looks 100% better when they are out!

We had a bunch and it took about a month but they did go away. Definitely a bit creepy.

AJ had them all over really after about 2 weeks. They all went away. No worries

Oh yes the fishing wire lol

after about 2 weeks i would gently pull and they would just fall right out, we would also wake in the morning to pieces of 'fishing line' all over the pillow

Just had a look at this post. Noticed Neve had a little stitch lose this morning on the top of her head, I think it is where she rubs her head when sleeping. Reading these posts I guess this is normal even after 1 week post op. I love this site, it is like the 'Book on everything you need to know about cranio - from a mum'

I had to email Dr. Fearon last week. Sawyer actually had a dissolvable suture pop through the skin, not near the incision. Dr F said we would start to feel little bb like bumps all over the suture lines once the swelling went down. This one started to feel super pointy and it was like 2 inches away from the incision. He said he's never known one to pop through the skin. But, it did! It's so weird. He has this fishing line sticking out of the skin that is nowhere near the incision.

I had totally forgotten about that, but now I remember...

Our doc also said it was ok to pull them out once they loosened up on their own. He actually made a joke out of it at the check-up, asking if I tweezed regularly and I was like, huh? Anyway we could pull them out with tweezers once they were loose. He had me regularly massage the incision to reduce scarring to we noticed as they were starting to work their way out. I think it was the 1 month check-up that we talked about it.

Dr Staffenberg says it happens, and to leave it alone and it will fall out when ready, even the ones that are not on the incision line. And JDs did fall out when ready. I think it was a week or a few weeks after i noticed it sticking out he had a few sticking out.
