Well......Thank you all for your wonderful "well wishes" and prayers. We just left Addie in surgery about 5 minutes ago. It was so incredibly tough, but I know she's in good hands. Luckily there are two computers right here in the PICU waiting area. We're suppose to call every 30 minutes for an update. I will keep you all updated as well, just being on here makes me feel better. Thanks again for all your prayers. Keep 'em coming!

Jenny

We're HOME!!!!!!!!! Yeah, it's wonderful to be home and to answer your question Candice, I'm great now. I was not so good in the hopital, but better now. I thought I had prepared myself for the swelling. I had seen a lot of pics, but the swelling is VERY bad. Both eyes are swollen shut. They said it should peak at 48 hours and that was this morning, but both eyes are still swollen shut. Anyway, glad to be home I'll post pics soon. Where's the best place to post pics in the surgery forum? Is that a private one?

I am so glad that you are home and Addie is doing well. Good luck on the recovery. I'm sure she is happy to be home as well. The swelling should begin to go down more now. It seems to go even quicker once you get home. I am happy for you both!

Welcome home! I can't wait to see her pictures (I've always put surgery pics in the surgery section, but for privacy, if you'd prefer, you can use the photo forum).

It's so hard to prepare yourself for the swelling....I looked at a ton of pictures and still wasn't really prepared. That's great that you are home. :hugg

Thank you. Thank you so much for all the supports. I'm posting pics right after this post. Quick question though...Is it common to have upset stomach after surgery. Addie was doing well in the hospital and up until this afternoon. She started throwing up everything she's eaten. Is this normal?

Jennifer

Emily didn't have those issues....but I've heard of a ton that have. I'm pretty sure it's the different medications in there system that messes things up. Did you switch medications at all? If she continues to throw-up, I'd call just to make sure, but I'm pretty sure it's common. I'm going to go look for the pics now!

Great to hear the good news! The swelling is always hard, but each day will get better.

Yes, the throwing up is normal. Dr.Fearon warned us it could happen, especially the day you go home. I was told to just give pedia lite until her tummy settles. How is the swelling? Is she running a fever? That is also common, with the swelling, Hang in there, you are doing great!!! Addie is lucky to have you

Thanks! Yes the swelling is down ALOT today which is good to see but she is still very fussy and not herself. Is this normal? How long does it take for them to get back to their "old" self?

Adrian, Yes she is running a fever. Did your daughter? Did you do straight pedilyte with no formula? For how long?

Such wonderful news about Addie, congratulations guys

Yes, she ran a fever as well. Dr. Sacco said that is caused from the swelling. We all loose heat from our head, and with all the swelling the heat is trapped, which in turn causes a fever. I did give her pedilyte for the first few days. I would nurse her in between, but only after she was holding down the pedilyte. Expect her to be fussy for several days. This is a huge adjustment for them. I found that keeping soft music on, and talking sooting helps. Let me know how she is and if you need anything.

I hope everything is going well with your beautiful little girl's recovery. Her surgery was the day after Christian's so she is probably out of the hospital and doing well now. My prayers are with you and your family. I know that this was probably the hardest thing you've had to do but I'm sure that you all will be just fine! Christian did have some vomitting because of all the antibiotics and pain medication, but since we've been home she hasn't had any. Christian ran a fever until the day we went home but it was hard to control even in the hospital. Are her eyes open? Once Christian's eyes opened she was more herself.

*For the little ones that have a fever after surgery...
We do loose our heat from our heads, but also our feet. A very quick way to reduce a fever is to sponge wet these areas. It is the evaporation of the water that lifts the heat not the temp. So don't use cold, use room temp water and wet their feet. Only a quick fix until the tylenol or other fever reducer kicks in.
