How does the staple removal go? I cant imagine Keegan sitting still while all 56 staples are removed from his head. Does it hurt them?
We go tomorrow for staple removal and 2 week post op check-up. Any questions I should be prepared to ask? We head back to MT (Cant wait to get back home) on Sunday.
I am concerned about the bumpiness of the back of his head, although have been told some are swollen glands.
Thanks!

when i have had them and jake and kellie they use a big staple remover for lack of better terms.. for the most part it doesnt hurt. just a tug and maybe a pinch.. it is seems scarier than it really is. best of luck tomorrow.. many hugs..

Some offices use a numbing cream before removing the staples. Ours did not, but it would not hurt to ask.

This is probably too late but out nurse just gave my son a "Bear Hug" (wrapped him in a sheet) and I kind of kept him down and she used a little staple remover. All 37 staples were out in less than 45 seconds - he didn't even have time to start crying before it was over! A lot easier than numbing!

OMG!
Never thought about it, as my baby got dissolvable stiches underneath the skin.
As the other Moms said, I am sure it is not as bad as it sounds.
And I am also sure that Keegan's doctor will do a great job.
All the best,

Well Keegan's 2 week post op appointment went well. The doctor said he looked great and joked around about hiring me to clean the incisions. He was asking me how I cleaned it and kept it so clean.
Since Keegan was a bit older they couldnt wrap him in baby blankets like they do for little ones. Instead the nurse pinned him down and the NP took out the staples. He was NOT happy one bit and was screaming at the top of his lungs and shaking. As soon as we left he smiled and then when the nurse who held him down went to give him a book he gave her a dirty look and turned away from her.

I'm so glad you are getting to head back home. I remember Florence getting her staples out, it was UNPLEASANT. But over quickly! We still have them in a baggy somewhere. Have a safe journey!

Good for him...holding him down like that is not right. This is why kids hate doctors and nurses. So sorry you had to deal with that.

Isaac had 43 staples and it actually went quite smoothly. My daughter said they had this weird tool and it seemed pretty painless. Kids always seem to cooperate more with people they don't know. Good luck, but I think it will be fine.

Thanks! I think most of his screaming was from being so tired. He conked out in the car immediately as it was way past his nap time.
