Well, we got the appointment for Emily's CT. March 2nd at 10am (earliest available). The nurse was concerned as the order requested no sedation. She followed it by saying Wehby doesn't like her babies sedated. But wasn't so sure that it would work. So she's calling the office to see if she can sedate if necessary (Apparently our NS has ALOT of say at the hospital- my MIL was talking to her friend who is a head nurse there and said the PICU has one way of handling pain- but our NS has another- and the poor nurse who chooses not to follow our NS's way on one of her babies....has it coming! She said the new nurses learn real quick that if it's one of our NS's patients to follow the guidelines exactly...)
Anyways, if sedation is necessary (with Emily I'm guessing it will be) she can't eat for 6 hours before- which means no breakfast for her-- she will not be thrilled. The kid is barely out of the crib and is pointing to go downstairs and eat........:no
The next day we have our appointment to go over the CT (if necessary) and to ask questions..... I think once all that happens reality will set in again......

Jen, I am sorry that the scan couldn't have been for earlier in the morning. I'm sure that Emily will be great. She is such a little trooper.

Oh boy that's going to be a tough one...I'll be praying for you. Hopefully it will go by quickly enough. Give her a great big favorite snack that evening for being such a good girl. Let us know how it all went.

Good Luck! Keep her busy that morning. Sounds like a good morning for a bribery new toy! My kids get so excited when they get something new that they forget all else. I'm praying for a quick morning and a swift CT with good results!

:hugg Good luck on the 2nd, I hope Emily does alright without sedation. I have the same worry with Dillon's CT on the 6th, it's not scheduled with sedation either!

Are they not giving the sedation because of their weight? I know that the "goofy Juice" that they normally give kids can only be given up to a certain weight and then they have to have another type of sedation-possible IV which may be more traumatic to the child. IF I am not mistaken I think that that could be the reason but I would have it double-checked. Children arouind 18-24 months DO NOT like to be held down. If I remember the name of the med I will look it up in my med book and let you know the details. I remember when Jillian had her CT, they said that she was young enough and at the right weight for the oral sedation. I'll let you know what I find.

I'm sure that the oral sedation stuff is not an option (age/weight). Our NS just prefers to do as little sedation as possible. I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen w/o sedation though- Emily hates new situations and will want to cling more to us....So we are following it like she will be sedated.
