Hello everyone, I´ve not been here for a while, but was hoping you guys might be able to ´help´. My sons surgeon has asked for us to do another CAT scan to keep check of his progress, he had surgery in oct 2008 for left coronal, the revision scan was meant for oct/nov last year , since then we have been called for the appointment 4 times, however each time my son has had either a snotty nose, flem or both and they wouldn´t anasthestise (sp?) him for the scan. My question is does anyone know of a CAT scan or similar that can be used with out anthestising him? we are in the canary islands and had surgery in Madrid. thanks if you can help. x

Sorry your appointment has been cancelled so many times! Here what we did....
Because the CT scan was so quick we were able to do the scan without sedation when my daughter was 5 months. For our MRI (at 11 months) which took an hour they did do sedation but at the same time they gave her a medicine to "dry her up" since she had a bit of a runny nose. I can look and see what that was - I don't remember the drug off hand.
Good luck!

Hi,

We had our scan done when my son was 9 mos. old. I really did not want him to be sedated so we scheduled his scan during his normal nap time. It took us 20 minutes to rock him in a deep sleep and then they did the CT scan. Since it only takes 2 minutes he did sleep through it and he is not a good sleeper usually! You could try doing that, just let the place where you are getting the scan done know that ou want to do that so that they can give you the time to get him to nap.

Best to you :hugg

My son had CAT scans at 10 months and at 20 months... both without being sedated. Every child is different but if you go to a Childrens Hospital the techs are usually amazing and can get it done quickly.
Good Luck!!

Thanks for all your replys, however I think we just have to wait until hes better, he is back on the list for next friday, and with it being social security, they open the door at 8.30 am and its first come first served, so no chance of getting him to sleep while they wait on us!!! we will arrive early 7am, so to try and be the first, just so he dosn´t get too hungry waiting after not been fed anything after 12 am, thanks anyway, hope all your kids stay well xxx

I've been to Tenerife! We went with my dad on a business trip when I was a senior in high school. I am super jealous that you live there...it's GORGEOUS!!!

As far at the scans go...Isaac has had 4 CTs...no sedation any time, so I can't really help you out. :( Wish I could! I do know that even for surgeries, my surgeons have said that as long as they don't have a fever or chest congestion they'd go ahead and do it? So maybe if there's just a stuffy nose or whatever and no other symptoms you could still have your scan.

Good luck!
