Miriam got her helmet today. She is actually doing ok with it. Don't get me wrong she isn't happy about it, but she is tolerating it.
I will get a picture of her tomorrow.

Glad she's doing ok. She'll get used to it in a few days or so. Do they tell you to do a "break-in" period so she gets used to it? I think once it's on all the time, it's actually easier. Clara would fuss when I took it on or off, but once it was on, she was fine. Take care :-)

Wow hope she gets used to it, I know how fussy babies can get mine don't even like winter hats and pull them off. Good Luck, can't wait to see the picture.

She will get used to it- Dean now seems to wonder why it's off during his hour off each day. Did they give you an estimate as to how long she will be in it? Can't wait for a picture.

They think it should only take about 4 months. I think they don't want to give us a date in hopes they don't get our hopes up, and then have her in it for longer.
Sorry I didn't get a picture taken today, I was busy cleaning my house. I will try again tomorrow.
I do have a question though. On the side that is trying to be pushed back is red, which I know is normal, but it almost looks like an abrashion (like a rug burn). Is that normal? I think I might call the orthatist.
Just wondering what you all think.

I'm inpatiently waiting for the picture! Dillon got used to his pretty easy, but learned to pop it off after about 2 months. :lol

Not sure about the redness. You can always call just to be sure.

The redness has got better. Today we did a birthday party for her. Her birthday isn't until next Saturday, but we did 2 birthdays in one so my family didn't have to travel twice. Anyway, I took a lot of pictures I will send some soon. Sorry I have been so busy this week.

Hi- I have been told that slight reddish/pink is ok- as long as it goes away in about 20 minutes after the helmet comes off.....if the skin is being broken in any way- some adjusting needs to happen....hope that helps, glad to hear it's gotton better......

Miriam now has 3 sores on her head. One is really bad. I noticed the sores on Sunday and took off the helmet. She has an appointment tomorrow, so I figured it was fine to take it off for a few days. Our orthatist called to confirm the appointment and we told her about the sores and she was pleased that we took it off.
I have been promising pictures of a week now. Sorry I have been so busy, but here they are.
Sorry they aren't very good. I will try and get more when my husband gets back with my camera.

What a beautiful little girl! I didn't know they had clear helmets. That's really cool. What are they going to do about the sores?

I think they will just adjust the helmet to make it not so tight in those areas, but I am not sure. I know our orthatist does use different helmets than that of what I have seen. They don't use the doc bands. He said these seem to fit better and not shift as bad.
I will let you all know how it goes today.

How cute is she! Yes- they should make it so it isn't rubbing on her head that way in those areas, I'm glad you took it off. Does her helmet have any foam on the inside? Dean's inside is covered in foam, and when they adjust it they shave some off in certain areas......

No, her helmet is all plastic. What was making the sore was the metal part that holds the velco on. He sunk them into the helmet more and put moles skin there.
It was actually really neat how they reform it. He had a blow torch and would melt the plastic and shape it how it need to be. It only took about 15 minutes.
He said he also fixed the shifting. I hope it is working better now. We will see him again in 2 weeks, when I go and see my PS too.

Well, everything isn't fine. She now has a bump and cut on the other side of her head. I am starting to think that another surgery in the future would be better than all of this. I am so frustrated. She is also getting a sore on the back of her head. It is like the helmet is rubbing it raw.
I have an appointment with our PS next week, and I was wondering if I should just wait until then to put it back on her. Also, has anyone else had these problems?
Thanks
:thankyou

I have been there. Where I was so frustrated by the helmet that I thought we made the wrong choice by putting him in it. Then we got it to fit right and went to people who knew what they were doing. I'm not saying that is your situation however...just saying I've been there. But, if it's doing that to her head, there is something wrong. It should be fixable though. I'm not familiar with the type of helmet she has, but it definitely shouldn't be making her head raw. I wouldn't have her wear it until it fits properly. Did you call the orthotist? I'm curious to know what they have said.

Jackson's helmet was made from some type of heavy duty styrofome (or however you spell that) so when his needed adjusted, they just shaved some off. Maybe you should ask about that. Plastic seems a little rough to me. It doesn't seem like there's any cushioning in that.

I hope you can find something that helps. She's such a beautiful little girl and needs all this to end soon.

Well, I called the orthatist office today and made an appointment for Friday. I asked the receptionist if it is normal to get sores on the head and have the helmet rub the skin raw. She said no. She said the orthatist will look at it and try to fix the problem, and I can still ask our PS about weather or not it is worth it.
I will keep you all informed.

Our orthatist did fix the helmet where it was giving her the sores. I hope it works this time. Luckily, we go and see him again in a week, so if not I can hopefully get it fixed AGAIN, or just say the heck with it.
It does seem to be fitting better, but only time will tell.
