An endoscopic craniectomy for Andrew's Metopic Cranio has been planned for Tuesday, March 13th at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, DE.
We have confidence in the surgeons' abilities and are hopeful. We were given the surgery date just this past Monday evening (Oh, gee, I just realized it was actually two Mondays ago I found out - where did that time go?!). I am thankful that I haven't had a whole lot of time to dwell on the upcoming (scheduled) surgery, but despite all my hopes and planning for earlier and more minor intervention, I believe I have still managed to fall into a sort of Shock mode. I'm becoming more disfunctional as the days role by and Less prepared for the event - all around - as the day approaches. Ugh! I'm going to still manage to leave everything to the last minute, or end up going without during our time at the hospital.
Yesterday was our Opthalmologist & Pre-Op appt. We also met with the hospital's medical photographer for pictures in between. We pulled into the parking lot at 11:32 and drove away at 5:19. What a day! Of lots of waiting.
Last Friday was our pre-op head scan (http://www.starbandkids.com/scanner/about_starscanner.htm) for Andrew's upcoming helmet. He will be fitted with The STARlight Bivalved (http://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/starlightbivalve.htm) helmet about a week after surgery. I am so far impressed with the technology and the level of detail used in order to assure a proper fit. Since the helmet is a very important aspect of a successful outcome in the course we are pursuing, I thought this was worth noting. A less favorable point is that we are expected back for a second scan a mere 3 days after surgery given the importance of getting him into the helmet as soon as possible, and, unfortunately, the closest scanner is in Philly, where we went last Friday. This is not a fun trip at all, not to mention so soon after surgery.
Anyway, just wanted to share, and ask for prayer.
Thanks!
