Silly question...

This is going to sound trivial in the grand scheme of things where cranio surgery is concerned, but i noticed in some pics that babies didn't have their hair shaved off. Can your child have this surgery and still keep their hair.
Our twins are 22 mos and it took FOREVER to grow the little amount of hair they do have LOL. I can't envision having to grow it all back if they do need surgery. I guess it's a minor thing, but I was curious, thx :)

In most of the pics I have seen, the head is not shaved. William's hair was cut real short prior to surgery and they shaved just a tiny (about 1 mm wide) spot for the incision. I cut his hair short so it would not take as long to blend in the regrowth. So your babies will keep their hair! The scars will heal quickly and not be noticeable for very long.

From what I have seen it seems to be the Dr.'s personal preference. Vance didn't have much hair at the time so they shaved just a small area around where they were making the incision. I don't think it is a very trivial question, it has been a question that I have seen many many times! Talk to you Dr. and find out what he usually does.

It was one of my first questions! Emily had a lot of hair. Our NS shaved just the little amount that was needed to make the incision- really just a few wisps of hair (she kept it for me as it was her first haircut!) But, each doctor seems to have their own preference- If you get to the point of scheduling surgery- just ask the question- I did and she responded quickly, so is probably asked alot.

Thx for the info on this. I do hope if they need surgery they can keep their hair. Our daughter Lexi still has very little hair it'd probably take 10 yrs to grow back LOL!

Matthew's head was just shaved where the insicion needed to be made and he kept all the rest of his hair!

Zachary's head was only shaved where the incision was. The doctor actually saved the hair that was shaved off in a baggie for me to keep.
