View Full Version : Hand/finger deformity??

I had mentioned this in another thread, but Camden's hands "split" apart between his two middle fingers. No one else's hands in our family are like this. Could this be apart of a syndrome, or just a normal oddity?? There are several issues Cam has (and so few answers), I just wonder if we should visit the geneticist again?

Any thoughts? Has anyone seen this before??

And I caught this one of his hand while trying to get a head shot..lol :crazy

hm Amy...that is curious, but I have no idea if it means something more. it seems that the two mid fingers are usually the ones (at least I do) you really have to concentrate on to spread them apart like that. :) wish I had more to say. I will add that often, when alex opens his mouth, his tongue is completely sideways...looks freaky! LOL

Well now that you mention it I will have to say that Sam has a funky toe thing. His big toe is slanted in and slightly overlaps his next toe. Also his fingernail on his big toe is a little indented. Not sure... but Dr said he would most likely outgrow it. I guess I have crrooked fingers and toes a little bit too... Not sure if I had it when I was little. I just assumed soccer (goalie) and ballet (toe shoes) were the ulprit for me. I will have to check out his fingers when he gets up from napping.

There could be something to it..I have clindactly and it looks like Henry does also. My DH can spread all his toes and I notice that henry spreads them kinda weird on his one foot who knows! Here is example of my hand see how crooked my pinky is? I have seen others on this board mention it also..Actually I never even knew what it was called until I read it here!

he has such cute little hands! lol

His "issue" seems like it would be more of a muscle or tendon issue, but I have syndactyly and clindactyly as well, which are related to my syndrome. I'm not sure if Cam's issue would be syndrome related or not..

My son who had severe metopic cranio also had an additional little left thumb!!!

Julie, this pic does not show it really well, but the closest I have of Jeffrey twisting his toung. He does that sideways thing too!

Jeffrey had an extra 'skin tag' of a pinky toe. Not attatched by bone and they just tied it off and like an ambilical cord...gone. Can't tell where it used to be now. Maybe a close gene to whatever causes cranio.

That is cool Amy, I can just see him in elementary school saying to all his buddies look what I can do!!
I will say that our genetecist concentrated on the digits (fingers, toes) a lot whenever she was making her observations. I have clindactyly like Jenni mentioned with my syndrome as well, with my pinky fingers being bent and my pinky toes are the same way.
I think there are still so many things related to syndromes they just don't know.

And there are so many just "oddities" of the human body that just make us all unique and different that aren't syndromic at all. I love the picture of his baby hands, I think down the line (split fingers and all) you'll be glad you have that picture to remember. I love baby hands.

Amy,

I agree with others...I love Cams chubby little wrists. They are so cute. I'll check out Adam's and see...

I think his chubby hands are cute too! Thanks yall :) It's true though, all of us have some odd thing or another. I'm just curious to know if anyone else has seen hands like this...I'm pretty sure it's his little finger bones that are formed this way, and not a muscle thing. It's pretty subtle most of the time, but as he loses that baby chub in his hands I wonder if it will get more noticeable.

Adam does not have the space. However, since birth, he has had a "notch" on the back of his ear. It looks like a finger nail mark. You can't even tell now that he has hair.

Now I want to go look at Eduardo's hands. I hadn't paid much attention. I do know that his big toe seems to be kinda long??!!

WOW, think i had better push for genetic testing for joshua. he has clinodactyly and one short toe. i have always questioned him having a syndrome with the clinodactyly but because he only had sagittal they didnt think it was connected. now he has metopic i think we need to look into it and with his abnormal hair growth on his body. x

Daniel had 12 fingers when he was born. They tied off the two extra fingers, only one had a fingernail...The geneticist said he didn't need to be tested for anything.

Adrian had a little extra thumb attached to his left thumb!! He had it removed when he had skull reconstruction!!!

Amy, Cam's hands are soooo cute & chubby i just love them.
I suppose were all different in one way or another but because of the cranio we automatically assume these 'differences' are related. Hopefully it's not syndrome related but either way it makes him just that little bit more special than he already is x

:adore Thank you, Jacqui!

I really examined his hands the other day, and I've come to the conclusion that his hands are perfectly fine, it's his middle finger on each hand that are bent. It's got to be some kind of little defect....I have to say I'm astounded at how many cranio kids have some kind of finger deformity.

Colin also had 12 fingers, one was fully functional and the other was hanging by a thread (but had a fingernail). They were also removed when he had surgery. No one recommended genetic testing, as extra digits run in my family. I had 11, my sister had 12, etc. I know they look a lot at asymetrical features when deciding whether or not to do genetic testing. Interestingly, Colin's tongue has two groves on the side instead of one in the middle. Anyone heard of this?

Finn has only one crease line instead of two at the top of his palms. The geneticist said that is linked to Down Syndrome, but Finn doesn't have that. She also said that it can happen in utero if they curl up their fists with their thumbs tucked inside instead of outside. She also said that Finn has short toes, but, my toes are short and stubby too:)
