So, we had our 3 month (it was actually 3.5 month) post surgical checkup yesterday. The doctor came into the room, and the first words out of his mouth were "well you clearly don't need your helmet anymore little guy" - my heart nearly exploded! He felt around his head, said it was healing perfectly, and told us to come back in 6 months for our last checkup. And then told Chase to enjoy his new head!
I couldn't believe it! As much as a part of me wanted to believe that he might get it off, I had already convinced myself there was no way it was going to happen this early. That maybe at best the doc would say nights only. I think i washed his head about 5 times last night to get rid of the lingering helmet/sweat smell. I am soooo excited! I woke up this morning and went into his room and was a little bit shocked to see him without his helmet on his noggin :) lol..
We are very pleased with the results, and as soon as I can I'll post some before and after pics of our little guy :D
For those mommies wondering, Chase had an entoscipic craniectomy for sagittal synostosis on 2/2/09, he started helmet therapy 23 hrs a day on 2/23/09 with a StarBand. And he is helmet free as of 5/19/09. And today is his 7 month birthday! woohoo!
